Nigeria’s Super Eagles will meet Jamaica in Saturday’s Unity Cup final after the Reggae Boyz secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over India at The Valley in London, Footynaija reports.
The Caribbean side produced a strong display at Charlton Athletic’s stadium, with Courtney Clarke opening the scoring before Kaheim Dixon wrapped up the win to book Jamaica’s place in the final against Eric Chelle’s men.
India, playing in England for the first time in more than two decades, started brightly and tried to match Jamaica’s intensity early on. However, the Reggae Boyz gradually took control with their pace, physical presence and direct attacking style causing constant problems.
Clarke gave Jamaica the lead after sustained pressure in the first half, while Dixon’s finish later in the game ended India’s hopes of forcing a comeback. The win now sets up another high-profile meeting between Nigeria and Jamaica in front of what is expected to be a packed crowd in south London.
The Super Eagles had already sealed their own final spot on Tuesday after defeating Zimbabwe 2-0 at the same venue. Millwall forward Femi Azeez enjoyed a dream senior debut by scoring both goals for Nigeria, finding the net inside the opening minutes before adding another after the break from Terem Moffi’s assist.
Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo also impressed on his debut as Chelle’s side controlled large parts of the contest against Zimbabwe.
Saturday’s clash will be a repeat of last year’s Unity Cup final, when Nigeria defeated Jamaica on penalties after an entertaining 2-2 draw. The Super Eagles are chasing another title as they look to maintain their unbeaten history in the competition.
Before the final, India and Zimbabwe will meet in the third-place match also at The Valley.
