Chelsea have renewed their interest in Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen as the club prepare for a major rebuild under incoming manager Xabi Alonso ahead of next season, Footynaija reports.
The Spaniard, who officially takes charge at Stamford Bridge on July 1 after signing a four-year contract, is already expected to play a bigger role in Chelsea’s transfer strategy than several of his predecessors during the BlueCo era. And one of the first major decisions of the Alonso project could centre around the long-running pursuit of Osimhen.
Chelsea have tracked the Super Eagles forward for more than two years and discussions around a possible move have again started behind the scenes. The 27-year-old has enhanced his reputation further during an outstanding spell with Galatasaray, scoring 22 goals in 29 starts and helping the Turkish giants maintain their dominance at home.

Osimhen’s form has once again attracted attention from Europe’s biggest clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, Chelsea remain firmly in contention despite uncertainty over Champions League football next season.
Those close to the player reportedly still view Stamford Bridge as a realistic destination, especially with Alonso now leading the project. The former Bayer Leverkusen coach is admired for his tactical ideas and long-term vision, and Chelsea believe his arrival could help convince elite players to join the club during a crucial summer window.

Galatasaray are reluctant to lose the striker and would reportedly demand around €100m before considering any sale. Chelsea previously attempted to sign Osimhen in 2024, but negotiations collapsed because of salary demands.
Even so, the Blues are still searching for a proven elite-level number nine capable of consistently delivering goals in the Premier League. While players such as Joao Pedro have impressed this season, Chelsea’s hierarchy believe Osimhen’s pace, power, movement and finishing ability could provide the focal point their attack has lacked for several years.
With Alonso preparing to reshape Chelsea’s squad, Osimhen’s name is once again moving rapidly towards the top of the club’s shortlist.
