Former Celtic goalkeeper Packie Bonner praised Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho for his incredible impact in Sunday’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Hibernian at the Easter Road Stadium, Footynaija.com reports.

Celtic, who are currently in the mix to win another Scottish Premiership title, looked set to drop points against 10-men Hibernian but Iheanacho intervened with a crucial goal to help Martin O’Neil’s side secure all three points.

The Nigeria international came off the bench with exactly twenty minutes of normal time to play and provided instant impact for the Hoops as he neatly controlled a cross into the box before netting the winning goal of the game.

Prior to Iheanacho’s introduction, Daizen Mayeda gave Celtic the lead on enemy territory after 41 minutes of first half football but the hosts drew the game level with a stoppage time equalizer courtesy of Joe Newell’s strike to ensure parity at half time.

Reacting to Iheanacho’s impact after the game, Bonner, who spent the entirety of his senior professional career manning the sticks for Celtic and winning multiple SPFL titles, hailed the Nigeria international for delivering the goods once again.

“Everybody connected with Celtic breathed a sigh of relief at the end. They made really hard work of it,” the former Celtic goalkeeper said on BBC Sportsound.

“Iheanacho came off the bench and he’s a proven striker. The big problem for him is lasting a full game but what an impact he made. The goal was really, really good.”

Iheanacho has now notched seven goals in 20 outings for Celtic with six of those strikes coming in substitute appearances against the likes of Kilmarnock, Red Star Belgrade, Dundee FC, St. Mirren and most recently Hibernian.
