Barcelona are exploring a fresh strategy to sign Victor Osimhen, with club leaders ready to rely on player sales to fund a move for the highly-rated striker, Footynaija reports.

The plan, led by president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco, has its roots in both ambition and necessity as the Spanish side continue to manage financial limits.

The club remain convinced that Osimhen has the qualities needed to lead their attack. His speed, physical strength and sharp finishing have made him one of Europe’s most feared forwards. Despite strong domestic form, Barcelona’s struggles in key matches, especially in Europe, have highlighted the need for a reliable goalscorer who can make the difference at the highest level.

However, any deal for Osimhen would be expensive. His current club, Galatasaray, are expected to demand a fee in the region of €100m, placing him among the most costly targets in the market. This presents a serious challenge for Barcelona given their well-known financial difficulties in recent years.

Instead of stepping back, the club have decided to act creatively. The new approach centres on selling players who are no longer key to the project, as per Fichajes. By doing so, Barcelona hope to raise significant funds while also reducing their wage bill, creating room for a major signing.

This ‘sell-to-buy’ model has already been used in recent transfer windows and is now seen as the only realistic path to securing a player of Osimhen’s profile. Deco is understood to be working on identifying which squad members could leave without weakening the team too much, while Laporta remains focused on ensuring the club stays within financial regulations.

Osimhen remains the priority target, but Barcelona are aware that everything depends on successful departures. If enough money is raised, the move could quickly gather pace and become one of the headline transfers of the summer.
