Premier League giants Manchester United have been urged by club legend Nicky Butt to do everything they can to land the signature of prolific Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in the upcoming transfer window, Footynaija.com reports.
Osimhen has been a sensation since his move to Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray, who rightly splashed a whooping sum of €75 million to sign him from Napoli on a permanent basis last summer after his record-breaking loan stint at RAMS Park in the 2024/2025 season.
This season, despite seeing his campaign disrupted by multiple injury setbacks, the Nigeria international has racked up 26 goal contributions (19G, 7A) in 29 appearances across all competitions, once again justifying Galatasaray’s decision to commit significant funds to his recruitment.

For Butt, a striker of Osimhen’s calibre is who Man United need heading into next season, especially with UEFA Champions League football on the horizon. The former defender doesn’t believe United’s current first-choice striker Benjamin Sesko has what it takes to lead a Red Devils side competing on multiple fronts and has called on his former team to consider luring Osimhen away from Turkey.

“I don’t think he [Sesko] can carry the club up front on his own, they’ll need another no9,” Butt said, per quotes revealed by Metro UK. “He’s shown he’s got massive potential, great movement, he works his socks off.
“When you go into the Champions League, it’s just a different kettle of fish. The tempo is totally different, the pressure on it is totally different. You’ve then got to come back and perform in the league, maybe two days later.

“They’re going to have to go out and buy a top, top player. I think he’d [Osimhen] be the one. You’d like to think that players from Turkish sides are gettable. I think he’s powerful, quick, he can run in behind, he’s strong, has got a good touch, can score different types of goals, he’s good in the air.
“Sesko might be ready in two or three years but not right now and definitely not in the Champions League. I know Osimhen isn’t proven in the Premier League but you look at his physicality and the way he plays football, he can definitely handle it.”

Meanwhile, Osimhen is also attracting admiring glances from elsewhere in Europe. Recent reports revealed that the Super Eagles striker is on the radar of La Liga champions Barcelona as the Spanish giants search for Robert Lewandowski’s replacement.
