Victor Osimhen makes bold title vow to Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe after surgery

Victor Osimhen has spoken for the first time after undergoing surgery on a fractured right forearm, offering a message of belief to Galatasaray at a crucial point in their season, Footynaija reports.

Like a two-edged sword, Osimhen’s words will also land at Fenerbahçe as a warning that Galatasaray are not ready to relinquish their crown.

The Nigeria international sustained the injury during a UEFA Champions League clash with Liverpool, forcing him to receive immediate medical care. The procedure was carried out in Istanbul by club doctor Yener İnce and was described as a success, with a plate inserted into his arm before it was stabilised in a splint.

Despite the setback, Osimhen struck a defiant tone when visited in hospital by club officials.

He said: “We will be champions, my president.” The message was directed at Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek but it will likely resound all over Istanbul.

Özbek later reassured supporters about the player’s condition, saying: “Osimhen is perfectly healthy. He underwent a very successful surgery. God willing, he will return to the field as soon as possible.”

The striker is expected to leave hospital within 24 hours, with the club set to monitor his recovery closely.

İnce confirmed the medical team’s commitment, stating: “another one of our players, Victor Osimhen, underwent a successful operation today. His condition will be monitored daily, and our medical team will do everything necessary to ensure his return to the pitch as soon as possible. Updates will be shared with the public by our club throughout the process.”

Osimhen is likely to be unavailable for around five weeks, ruling him out of key league fixtures against Trabzonspor, Göztepe, Kocaelispor and Gençlerbirliği. There is, however, optimism that he could return in time for a potentially decisive meeting with Fenerbahçe on April 26.

His absence presents a significant challenge for coach Okan Buruk, whose side currently hold a slender four-point lead at the top of the table. Osimhen has been central to their campaign, scoring 12 league goals and 19 in all competitions, and his absence may test the depth of the squad despite the presence of experienced attackers such as Mauro Icardi and Leroy Sané.

With the title race finely balanced, the coming weeks could prove decisive. Galatasaray must now find a way to maintain their advantage without their leading striker, while Osimhen faces a race against time to return and potentially shape the outcome of the season.
