Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has emerged as Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli’s top transfer target for the summer, with the Jeddah-based club ready to triple his current wages to bring him to the Gulf, Footynaija.com reports.
Onuachu, 31, joined Trabzonspor permanently from Southampton last summer after a loan spell, and has since become sensational in the Turkish Süper Lig.
He is the division’s top scorer with 18 goals and one assist in 21 appearances, scoring in six consecutive games, and has been directly involved in nearly half of Trabzonspor’s league goals this season.
The club have been dreaming of European football on the back of his performances, and losing him in the summer would be a serious blow to those ambitions.
Al Ahli’s interest is reportedly driven by the expected departure of England international Ivan Toney, who is pushing for a return to European football when his contract expires.
Onuachu’s size, aerial threat and goal record make him the closest available match for what Toney has provided, and the Saudi club are ready to put serious money on the table to get the Super Eagles striker.
Onuachu currently earns around €48,000 a week at Trabzonspor. Al Ahli are prepared to take that to €144,000, which works out at roughly £120,000 a week, the biggest pay packet of his career by some distance.
Trabzonspor hold the cards though. Onuachu signed a contract that runs until 2028 when his move was made permanent last summer, and the club will not let their best player walk so easily.
