Ahmed Musa dismisses Kazakhstan transfer links

Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has shut down reports linking him with a move to Kazakhstani side FC Kaysar, Footynaija.com reports.

The speculation started when FC Kaysar signed Musa’s former Super Eagles teammate Victor Moses in January, with some outlets suggesting the club were also targeting Musa to pair the two experienced Nigerians in attack.

Musa himself was reportedly unaware of the links when they first surfaced, and his representatives were also in the dark about any approach.

However, as revealed by Guardian.ng, the former Leicester City forward has no intention of going anywhere. He returned to Kano Pillars for a third spell in October 2024, and has since taken on a role that goes well beyond playing.

He is now the club’s General Manager as well, handling recruitment, planning and daily operations alongside his duties on the pitch. He has scored three goals in 16 appearances this season, but it is the off-field work that has kept him anchored to the club he started his career with.

The timing of the rumours was particularly awkward, given the situation at Kano Pillars. The Sai Masu are fighting to avoid relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), sitting dangerously close to the drop zone with ten games left.

Musa’s presence, both as a player and as the man running the club behind the scenes, has been central to keeping things together during a very difficult season.

He retired from international football in December 2025 as Nigeria’s most capped player in history, having appeared 111 times for the Super Eagles, and his focus now is on building something lasting at home rather than chasing one more contract abroad.
