Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has urged Panathinaikos to show greater composure in closing out matches after scoring the winner in their 1-0 victory over Volos in the Greek Super League, Footynaija.com reports.
Dessers struck immediately after the restart on Sunday to hand the Greens all three points in their Matchday 8 encounter at Volos. The Nigerian forward finished off a move created by Andrews Tetteh, whose delivery set him up to score in the 46th minute.
That goal extended Dessers’ scoring streak to four consecutive matches across all competitions, taking his tally to nine goals in 14 appearances this season. Despite securing the victory, the former Rangers striker felt Panathinaikos could have managed the contest better after allowing their hosts to threaten during a spell in the second half.
Dessers dismissed fatigue and the condition of the pitch as possible explanations for the team’s difficulties, insisting that the players had been in good shape and that the playing surface was not a problem.

“We controlled the game for most of the match. We only lost control during one spell in the second half, allowing our opponents to become more dangerous. We need to be smarter in these situations and try to finish games off earlier,” Dessers said, per Gazzetta.
The Nigerian also praised Tetteh for his contribution to the winning goal, describing the delivery as an incredible ball and expressing satisfaction with the improvement in their attacking partnership.
Dessers believes there is still room for the pair to develop their understanding, particularly when combining around the penalty area with other attacking options.
The victory provides another boost for Panathinaikos as they continue their Greek Super League campaign, with Dessers’ consistent goalscoring offering an important platform for the club to build on in the coming fixtures.
