Terem Moffi: Super Eagles striker takes legal steps to terminate contract with Ligue 1 club OGC Nice

Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi has reportedly taken legal steps in a bid to end his three-year association with INEOS-owned French Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice, Footynaija.com understands.

Moffi has been on the sidelines for over a month after falling victim of a violent attack from OGC Nice fans, following the team’s disappointing 3-1 defeat to the Nigerian’s former employers FC Lorient in the French top flight. That defeat came back in November, extending a six-game losing streak for OGC Nice across all competitions at the time.

After the game, aggrieved supporters confronted the squad and allegedly subjected them to both verbal and physical abuse with Moffi and another teammate Jeremie Boga reportedly bearing the brunt of the attack.

Reports indicate that supporters’ frustration was fuelled by off-field incidents, with Moffi drawing the ire of fans after being seen sharing a light moment with former Lorient president Loic Fery following the defeat, while Boga was allegedly singled out over a ticket dispute involving friends from Marseille.

According to a recent report from French media outlet L’Equipe, both Moffi and Boga have formally lodged complaints with the Professional Football League’s legal committee, seeking to terminate their contracts over concerns that the club did not guarantee their safety when the aforementioned set of fans attacked Nice’s team bus back in November.

While Moffi’s current contract at Nice runs until June 2027, it appears that the Nigerian striker’s relationship with the club has crumbled drastically following the incident. Interestingly, Moffi joined Nice from Lorient in the winter window of 2023 and exactly three years later, it looks like he’s set to be on the move again.
