“Anything is possible” – Super Eagles’ Ogbu remains upbeat on Slavia Prague’s UCL hopes despite Spurs defeat

Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu believes Slavia Prague are still in the running to qualify for the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds despite Wednesday night’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Footynaija.com reports.

Ogbu was powerless as Slavia fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the reigning Europa League champions with the Super Eagles star even conceding a spot kick that led to Spurs’ third goal.

Reflecting on the match, he admitted the result was difficult to take but insisted the Czech Republic champions still stood a chance of progressing beyond the league phase.

“(The defeat to Spurs) is a tough one,” Ogbu told flashscore.com. “To be honest, it was really a tough game for us and a good experience. I think for me, I’m okay with it.

“I think (the penalty call) is a fair decision. For me, it’s all a learning process. I wasn’t happy to get a penalty for my team. I think it’s a work in progress, and it’s part of the game.

“In the Champions League, I don’t think we have lost all the games. We had three draws, and we lost two of the games before facing Spurs.

“We have a chance. We have two more games, and anything is possible. We have that maturity to get the needed result going forward because we’re a young team.

“We have young players and we work hard. I think anything is possible in football. I think we can achieve it if we keep working hard and keep doing good.”

While Ogbu’s optimism is admirable, Slavia Prague’s fortunes in Europe so far this season tell an entirely different story.

They are winless in six outings and must now win their remaining two games, one of which will come against last season semifinalists Barcelona, to stand any chance of reaching the play-offs round.
