Christantus Uche’s hopes of securing a fresh start in the January window have taken a major hit, with the Nigerian midfielder now unable to join another club due to FIFA’s two-club rule, Footynaija.com reports.
Crystal Palace secured the 22-year-old from Getafe in the summer, with the move structured around a loan that carries a future obligation dependent on match involvement. However, his lack of minutes means that clause is drifting further away from being activated, leaving both player and club caught in a complicated arrangement as January draws nearer.
The Super Eagles midfielder has struggled for playing time since arriving at Selhurst Park. He has made 7 appearances across all competitions for Palace, featuring for only 67 minutes in total.

He has not managed to secure a regular role under Oliver Glasner and has mostly been limited to brief cameos that have not allowed him to build rhythm. Those minutes, however, still count as official matches and therefore contribute to his registration tally for the season.
Before his move to England, Uche had already played for Getafe in La Liga earlier in the campaign. He made three league appearances for the Spanish club and delivered one goal and one assist, a run that helped raise expectations ahead of his switch to the Premier League.
Those performances also completed the first part of the two-club threshold, meaning his time at Getafe combined with his involvement for Palace now places him at the competition limit set by FIFA.
As confirmed by The Athletic, Uche cannot leave Crystal Palace for a third club in January because of the two-club rule, which prevents any player from representing more than two teams in official matches within a single season.
The regulation allows a player to be registered with three clubs, but only two can be used in competitive fixtures. Since Uche has already featured for Getafe and Crystal Palace, he cannot appear for any other club until the next campaign.
