The Super Eagles are set for a tense showdown against Gabon in the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff today Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco, Footynaija.com reports.
Nigeria come into the game having ended their CAF qualifying campaign with mixed form but late momentum, while Gabon, led by Aubameyang, are aiming to upset the traditional African powerhouses.
Both teams face the pressure of a one-leg knockout on neutral ground at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium, where defensive discipline, tactical awareness, and seizing scoring chances will be decisive.

The stakes are high, and the focus has also been on the players themselves. Amid squad tensions earlier in the week over bonuses, Nigeria have now returned to training, with Iwobi acting as both a voice of confidence and realism for the team.
It is only after this build-up that Iwobi’s personal perspective comes into play. In an interview with BBC News Africa, he reflected on his time at Arsenal alongside Aubameyang:
“He’s a quality player, currently doing well at Marseille. Even when he was at Arsenal, I was his little brother. On the pitch, he used to say to me, ‘Alex, just express yourself. Be you.’ He was a great big brother to me.”
Looking ahead to the playoff, Iwobi admitted:
“I don’t know how we’re gonna lock him up. I’m sure our manager will have some sort of tactic. It won’t be easy, but I hope we find a way to do so.”
Aubameyang, at 36, remains prolific and experienced, and his leadership on the pitch is central to Gabon’s approach. For Iwobi, it is not just a tactical challenge but a personal test against someone who helped shape his early career.
