Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been warned ahead of their World Cup playoff with Gabon, with attention on Gabonese forward Denis Bouanga, Footynaija.com reports.
While much of the talk has centred on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s form, it is Bouanga’s lethal form that has raised genuine concern this time around.
The playoff, which will determine who advances to the next round of CAF’s World Cup qualification pathway, is one of the most intense fixtures of the series. Nigeria, guided by Eric Chelle, progressed after a testing qualifying campaign marked by early draws and narrow wins that left the team under pressure before regaining form late in the group phase.

Victories over teams like Benin and Rwanda, with Victor Osimhen’s hat trick and brace respectively, secured their passage to the playoffs.
Bouanga, Los Angeles FC forward, has scored 26 goals and provided 8 assists in just 33 MLS appearances this season, a record that has earned him recognition in North America.
In the CAF World Cup qualifiers, he finished as the third highest scorer with 8 goals and 2 assists, proving his ability to influence matches both home and away.
Aubameyang’s experience remains crucial for Gabon, especially after the Marseille striker’s recent scoring spree that saw him net four times in the qualifiers. His return to top form in Ligue 1 has also boosted the Central Africans’ confidence heading into this contest.
However, some believe Bouanga’s speed, strength, and movement pose another danger to Nigeria’s backline, which has occasionally struggled with pacey forwards in recent matches.
