Benin coach Gernot Rohr says his team have nothing to fear going into the final two games of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after climbing to 14 points in Group C, Footynaija.com reports.

The Cheetahs, who stunned Nigeria earlier in the campaign, now believe they can either finish top or secure one of the playoff slots reserved for the best runners-up.

Rohr is backing his squad to maintain their momentum, pointing to their balance and growing confidence.

“We know Rwanda and Nigeria well, the latter of which we’ve already beaten. As for them, we don’t know if they’re still in a position to qualify. If they’re not, maybe it’ll be less difficult,” the former Super Eagles coach said in a report by The Nation.

“Our last two matches? It’s still possible. You know that with 14 points, we not only have the chance to finish first in the group, but we can also end up among the best runners-up. So, we absolutely must keep going down this path,” he added.

Rohr, who managed Nigeria between 2016 and 2021, also praised the spirit in his squad.

“The team has become balanced: it doesn’t concede goals, it fights together, and it also has technical resources.”

“We’re seeing young players who are confident, and we have hope, without being overly optimistic either. We know it’s going to be tough,” the Franco-German tactician also added, banking on Benin’s youthful energy to carry them over the line.

With South Africa leading the group and Nigeria still in the mix, Benin’s next outings are set to be season-defining. Rohr, however, insists his team have already shown they can upset the odds.
