CHAN: Sudan boss sends words of advice to Eric Chelle after humbling Super Eagles B

Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah shared some advice on what Eric Chelle needs to address after orchestrating a 4-0 thrashing of the home-based Super Eagles at the ongoing 2024 African Nations Championship, Footynaija.com reports.

Eric Chelle’s Eagles enjoyed a bright start to the game and were in the ascendancy for the first twenty minutes of the match. They even rattled the back of the net but saw their goal rightly chopped off for offside.

Appiah’s Sudan took charge of proceedings from then on, putting four unreplied goals past the Super Eagles to subject them to their second consecutive defeat in the group stage and effectively knock them out of the tournament.

After the game, the Sudan boss had some words of advice for his counterpart Eric Chelle. Appiah claimed the home-based Eagles weren’t all that bad and only needed some refining touches, especially in attack.

“I think the home-based Super Eagles aren’t that bad. On the whole, tactically, they played well,” Sudan’s Ghanaian boss said in quotes revealed by CAF online.

“The coach only needs to do some polishing with the attack. The first game against Senegal wasn’t that bad; in the second game, they had stints of possession, but our approach helped us.”

Appiah also revealed his surprise at the final result, admitting that while he knew his team could be up to the task, he didn’t expect such a massive difference in terms of the scoreline.

“I was surprised with the performance of some of my players. If you noticed, my changes came deep into the second half because everyone was playing really well,” he said.

“We knew it was going to be tough, especially the first 20 minutes. Our tactical play was to absorb pressure and hit them on the counter.

“I wasn’t expecting the scoreline, but I knew if we play our best, we could defeat Nigeria.”
