Nigeria’s Super Falcons have maintained their 36th position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, released on Thursday, despite being crowned champions of Africa for a record 10th time, Footynaija.com reports.
The ranking update reflects no change for Nigeria, who have now remained in 36th place for six consecutive editions, having dropped from 34th in March 2024.
Nonetheless, the Super Falcons continue to dominate the African standings, remaining the highest-ranked women’s national team on the continent.
During the latest international window, Nigeria secured a 3-1 win over Ghana and played out a draw against Portugal in friendlies.
That momentum carried through to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Justin Madugu’s side delivered a string of commanding performances. Nigeria won two of their three group-stage matches, drew one, and went on to beat Zambia, South Africa, and hosts Morocco in the knockout stages to reclaim the title.
Elsewhere in Africa, South Africa remain second on the continent and 54th globally, while Morocco dropped to 64th. Zambia and Cameroon round out Africa’s top five.
Spain now top the global rankings, overtaking the United States. Sweden, England, and Germany complete the top five.
