Super Eagles and Fulham star Alex Iwobi has expressed gratitude to his boyhood club Arsenal for playing a massive role in his journey to becoming a professional footballer, Footynaija.com reports.

Iwobi’s career kicked off at Arsenal’s famous Hale End Academy, from where he progressed into the Gunners’ first team setup and went on to rack up a total of 149 appearances across all competitions before moving on to Merseyside to join Everton in 2019.

Thanks to the solid foundation Iwobi had at Arsenal, his career has grown in leaps and bounds since he moved on. He has now established himself as a key player for both the Nigeria national team and his current club Fulham. Last season, he recorded his most productive numbers in front of goal, producing 15 goal contributions in just over 40 appearances.

“I’m so blessed and I’m so happy to be in the position I am today,” he said in an interview with The Guardian.

“I’m obviously grateful to Arsenal because they always produce youngsters. I saw Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri during the off-season and you wouldn’t think that they’re 18 – they’re both very mature and carry themselves really well.”

Going into the 2025/2026 season, Iwobi is hoping he’ll be able to pick up from where he left things last term and perhaps, even produce a much more impressive run of performances for Fulham.

“No matter what age you are, I feel like you have to give 100%. But yeah, I am kicking on. I’m going to be 30 next season. So I’m no longer a young kid but hopefully next season I’ll make another big statement.”

Fulham finished the 2024/2025 campaign with a record points tally (54) and narrowly missed out on securing European football for the upcoming season. Iwobi and The Cottagers will be looking to improve on last season’s performance when they start their PL campaign at the AMEX Community Stadium where Brighton will be waiting on Saturday, August 16.
