Galatasaray are edging closer to securing one of the most high-profile transfers in Turkish football history, with President Dursun Özbek confirming the club is finalising a permanent move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, Footynaija.com reports.

After a blistering loan campaign last season, where Osimhen netted an astonishing 37 goals and contributed eight assists to help Galatasaray clinch both the Super Lig and Turkish Cup, the 26-year-old is now poised to make Istanbul his long-term home.

While Napoli and Galatasaray are believed to have agreed terms, the final hurdle remains a financial technicality: Napoli are insisting on firm bank guarantees to cover Osimhen’s release clause.

Speaking on the the deal that is a record Nigerian transfer, President Özbek was confident and upbeat.

“Osimhen is a player that Galatasaray loves and has greatly benefited the team,” he said as per Beinsports.

“Our efforts to sign him are ongoing. I can say that we will execute Osimhen’s transfer very intelligently and successfully. You will agree with me when I explain how it was done after the work is completed
.”

Osimhen had no shortage of options, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester United reportedly monitoring his availability.

Yet, he opted for familiarity and success, choosing to return to the club where he flourished last season.

With the 2025/26 campaign fast approaching, Galatasaray are eager to conclude the deal swiftly and officially unveil Osimhen as the club’s marquee summer signing.
