Nigerian midfield sensation Christantus Uche is edging closer to a potential move to the Premier League, despite several offers from Serie A clubs, Footynaija.com reports.
Getafe president Ángel Torres has revealed that the 22-year-old remains keen on England, leaving Italian suitors on the sidelines.
“He’s clear that if he’s going, it’s to the Premier League. He has offers from Italy, but he, I don’t know why, wants to go to the Premier League,” Torres said as per Marca. “Uche doesn’t even know what he wants; it depends on how he gets up. He’s coming tomorrow, and we’ll talk to him.”
Uche’s rise to a La Liga standout has caught many by surprise.
Having joined AD Ceuta FC in 2023 from lower-tier Moralo CP, the defensive midfielder quickly made his mark under coach José Juan Romero. His impressive displays earned him a move to Getafe, where he has since become one of the standout young talents in La Liga.
The Nigeria international was shortlisted for La Liga’s U23 Player of the Month in February and recently made his debut for the Super Eagles.
He scored the decisive penalty in Nigeria’s Unity Cup win over Jamaica and followed it up with a strong showing in a 1-1 friendly against Russia in Moscow.
Getafe are reportedly open to letting Uche leave this summer, but only for a fee in the region of €20 million.
If a Premier League club meets that valuation, AD Ceuta FC are also set to benefit, holding a 12.5% sell-on clause that could net them roughly €2.5 million.
“They’ve asked about several midfielders. That’s why we’ve strengthened our position,” Torres noted. “We thought Uche, who has the most offers, could be one of them. We don’t want to touch the two starters.”
Uche’s case will be discussed internally this week, and the outcome may shape Getafe’s summer dealings. If sold, the Spanish side will have room to resist further departures — while banking a hefty profit on a player signed from Spain’s third tier just a year ago.
