5. Bright Osayi-Samuel

Bright Osayi-Samuel signed from Queens Park Rangers in 2021 and quickly reinvented himself as a wing-back. He made over 90 appearances for the Yellow Canaries and played key roles in several Istanbul derbies.

The Super Eagles defender won the 2022–23 Turkish Cup and delivered a standout 2023–24 season, scoring four league goals, his highest return in a single campaign.

4. Emmanuel Emenike

Emenike’s time at Fenerbahçe was anything but ordinary. He signed in 2011 but was sold to Spartak Moscow before ever playing a competitive match due to investigations into a match-fixing scandal.

However, the former Super Eagles striker returned in 2013 and made his presence felt on the pitch. In his comeback season (2013–14), Emenike scored 12 goals in 28 league games, helping Fenerbahçe win the Süper Lig title. He also lifted the Turkish Super Cup in 2014.

Though his later years at the club were mixed, his first full season remains one of the best by a Nigerian forward in Fenerbahçe history. He left with 25 goals in 93 appearances.

3. Jay-Jay Okocha

Jay-Jay Okocha lit up Turkish football in the mid-1990s with his jaw-dropping skills and stunning goals. After joining from Eintracht Frankfurt in 1996, he instantly became a fan favourite.

The legendary Nigerian attacking midfielder scored 30 goals in 62 matches. Although he did not win any silverware during his time at the club, his style of play captured the hearts of Fenerbahçe supporters and left a lasting legacy.

His performances in Turkey earned him a high-profile move to Paris Saint-Germain in 1998 for a then-African record transfer fee of £14 million.

2. Joseph Yobo

Joseph Yobo brought leadership and experience to Fenerbahçe’s defence after joining on loan from Everton in 2010. The move became permanent shortly after, and the former Super Eagles captain went on to wear the armband at the Turkish giants.

In four seasons at the club, Yobo won the 2010–11 Süper Lig title and lifted the Turkish Cup twice (2011–12, 2012–13). He also played every minute of the 2012 Cup final, where Fenerbahçe thrashed Bursaspor 4-0.

Yobo’s strength, composure, and aerial dominance made him a dependable figure in defence. He racked up over 90 appearances and is still fondly remembered in Istanbul.

1. Uche Okechukwu (1993–2002)

At number one is the legendary centre-back Uche Okechukwu, one of the most respected foreign players in Fenerbahçe history. Known simply as “Uche” in Turkey, he spent nine successful seasons at the club after joining from Brøndby in 1993.

Uche formed a rock-solid partnership with Danish defender Jes Høgh and was a key figure in Fenerbahçe’s defensive line throughout the 1990s. He helped the club win two Süper Lig titles (1995–96 and 2000–01) and made 233 league appearances, scoring 19 goals.

His consistency, loyalty, and success on the pitch earned him huge respect among Turkish fans, and he remains one of the few Nigerians to reach legendary status at a European club.
