The Super Falcons made a bold statement on Tuesday evening as they defeated long-time rivals Cameroon 2-0 in a pre-WAFCON international friendly at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Footynaija.com reports.

Goals from captain Rasheedat Ajibade in the first half were enough to give Nigeria a comfortable win and a clean sheet.

But beyond the scoreline, here are five takeaways from a night that belonged to Nigeria:

1. Super Falcons Are Peaking at the Right Time

Tuesday’s friendly was the first match of 2025 for the Super Falcons, but the performance looked far from rusty.

Coach Justin Madugu’s team played with rhythm, intensity, and a real sense of direction.

The chemistry between home-based and foreign-based players was visible, and the tactical discipline on display showed clear improvement.

With WAFCON qualifiers drawing closer, this performance was the perfect platform to build confidence and momentum.

2. Cameroon Are No Longer a Major Threat

The rivalry between Nigeria and Cameroon has always been intense, but the latest meeting only confirmed the growing gap between both teams.

This win marks Nigeria’s 15th victory over Cameroon in 21 meetings, and that tells its own story.

The Indomitable Lionesses were second-best in almost every department as they struggled to cope with the tempo of Nigeria’s pressing game.

3. Defence Looks Tight, Focused and Ready

You can tell a lot from a clean sheet. Oluwatosin Demeyin and Sikiratu Isah were calm and commanding at the back, with full-backs Miracle Usani and Michelle Alozie offering balance and cover on both flanks.

Behind them, Chiamaka Nnadozie barely had to break a sweat, but stayed alert to smother a late Cameroon effort in added time. That kind of concentration, when you’re coasting, is the mark of a serious backline.

4. Midfield and Attack Showing Real Depth

The return of some regular names and the emergence of new options has boosted squad competition.

Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini were both influential in midfield, while Deborah Abiodun was impressive with her work rate and ball recovery.

In attack, Ifeoma Onumonu did her bit while starting up front, with Omorinsola Babajide and Rasheedat Ajibade supporting.

Off the bench, Francisca Ordega, Christy Ucheibe, and Bolaji Olamide brought fresh legs and more than a hint of competition. This squad is stacked, and that is exactly what Madugu will want heading into qualifiers.

5. Rasheedat Ajibade Is Ready to Lead

Rasheedat Ajibade did not just lead the team, she lit it up. The 25-year-old won and scored a penalty with confidence, then added a well-taken second just before the break.

Vocal, dangerous, and constantly involved; Ajibade is shaping into the kind of leader who sets the standard and raises the ceiling.
