Let’s be honest. When Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan booked their places in the 2025 UEFA Champions League Final, you could almost hear the collective sigh across football Twitter.

No Real Madrid. No Manchester City. No Premier League or La Liga drama. Even Bayern Munich didn’t make it out of the quarter-finals.

Instead, we’ve got a final with no English, Spanish, or German representation, for the first time since 2004.

And yet, this might just be the breath of fresh air European football needs.

The Final Everyone Overlooked

For many neutrals, this year’s final might feel… underwhelming. There’s no Kylian Mbappé (he’s now at Madrid). No Erling Haaland. No Guardiola vs Ancelotti. No team playing to “avenge last season.” Just two clubs who’ve quietly, yet convincingly, navigated their way through the toughest bracket in Europe.

But take a second look, and you’ll see this isn’t a flat fixture. It’s an unlikely blockbuster.

A Break from Predictable Finals

Let’s talk about the recent history of Champions League finals. Since 2020, we’ve seen a string of low-scoring, tightly controlled showdowns: Real Madrid beat Dortmund 2-0 last year; Manchester City edged Inter 1-0 in 2023; Madrid again snuck past Liverpool 1-0 in 2022; Chelsea shut out City 1-0 in 2021; and Bayern did the same to PSG in 2020.

See the pattern? Despite the talent on display, five straight finals have been cautious, low-scoring affairs. The favourites almost always won. The so-called “best teams in the world” played like they were more afraid to lose than ready to win.

But this time? We’ve got two sides with different weapons, different motivations, and far more equal footing.

Why This Final Might Actually Deliver

Contrasting Styles = Guaranteed Friction

PSG under Luis Enrique are compact, fast in transition, and unafraid to press high. Inter under Simone Inzaghi are disciplined, surgical, and thrive in chaos. That clash of philosophies is what makes football interesting.

Both Have Something Real to Prove

PSG still haven’t won a Champions League title. This is their third final in less than a decade, and arguably the most “balanced” side they’ve ever brought. Inter, on the other hand, are back after losing the 2023 final. That pain still lingers, and fuels them.

No Clear Favourite

This isn’t a David vs Goliath matchup. This is two heavyweights who’ve both knocked out bigger names: PSG dumped out Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal; Inter took care of Bayern and Barcelona. This game can go either way, and that’s the real thrill.

A Stage Set for Chaos or Glory

There’s every reason to believe this final could buck the trend of boring deciders.

Inter’s semi-final win over Barcelona ended 7–6 on aggregate after extra time. PSG got past Arsenal and Liverpool in nail-biters. Both teams know how to suffer, and strike back.

Add the nerves of a final, and the fact that both squads can hurt each other from midfield to flanks, and you’ve got the recipe for an actually competitive game.

You Can’t Skip this one

It may not be the final you asked for. But it might just be the final you’ll remember.

Because this time, it’s not about dynasties or expensive squads. It’s about two teams who fought harder, smarter, and with far less noise, to get to the summit of European football

This is one final you don’t want to miss, especially if you’re tired of predictable showdowns. Tune in live on SS Football (Channel 61) on GOtv, your go-to platform for the best in world-class sports entertainment.

Kick-off is at 8 PM WAT on Saturday.
