“All attention on the Super Eagles” – former official says NFF overlooks Falcons ahead of WAFCON

Former Flamingos media officer Isabella Ekeoma has criticised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for focusing too much on the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualification campaign while neglecting the Super Falcons’ upcoming tournaments, Footynaija.com reports.

Speaking in an interview with News Central TV, she pointed out that women’s football in Nigeria is not getting the attention it deserves.

Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers have been the main focus, with the Super Eagles struggling in Group C.

The NFF has given full backing to head coach Eric Chelle, ensuring the team receives the necessary support. The media has also been dominated by discussions on how Nigeria can still qualify for the World Cup.

“I think they are forgetting the women are going to play this year because all their attention has been on the World Cup qualification for the Super Eagles,” Ekeoma said.

While the Super Eagles’ campaign has taken the spotlight, the Super Falcons are also preparing for a major tournament.

The 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers are ahead, but Ekeoma and others have expressed concerns about the NFF’s inaction.

Ekeoma’s comments reflect long-standing issues in Nigerian football. The Super Falcons have won 11 WAFCON titles, yet they continue to struggle for financial backing and proper logistics.

As once reported by the BBC, these disputes have been recurrent in Nigerian women’s football.

Then there is also the difference in media coverage. The Super Eagles’ squad announcements, training sessions, and matches receive massive attention, while updates on the Super Falcons are often overlooked.

Ekeoma’s statement has once again highlighted these concerns. With the Olympics and WAFCON qualifiers approaching, the NFF is being urged to give the Super Falcons the same level of attention as the men’s team.
