The Super Eagles were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Zimbabwe today at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Footynaija.com reports.

Victor Osimhen put Nigeria in front in the 74th minute with a brilliant header from Ola Aina’s cross. But just when it looked like Eric Chelle’s side would take all three points, Zimbabwe’s Tawanda Chirewa struck in the 90th minute to break Nigerian hearts.

After the match, head coach Eric Chelle spoke briefly about the result. His words reflected both disappointment and pride in the team’s efforts.

“We had a lot of intensity in the first half. Maybe we were tired in the end,” Chelle said.

“It’s difficult for me to analyse this game now. The team made efforts to win. This is football. Again, we deserved to win the game.”

It was clear from the coach’s words that the Super Eagles gave everything, especially in the first half, where they controlled possession and created several chances. However, fatigue and lapses in concentration at the end cost them two valuable points.

Chelle admitted it was tough to process the result so soon after the final whistle. But he chose to focus on the positives, highlighting the team’s desire and commitment.

He added: “We had a lot of intensity in the first half. Maybe we were tired in the end. It’s difficult for me to analyse this game now.”

The draw leaves Nigeria with seven points from six matches in Group C. The Super Eagles now face an even bigger challenge, with upcoming fixtures that will decide their 2026 FIFA World Cup fate.
