Hull City have given themselves a promising foundation in their return to the Premier League, but Semi Ajayi is keen to keep expectations in check as the Nigerian defender insists that six matches are not enough to judge what the club can achieve this season, Footynaija.com reports.
Hull began their campaign with a 2-0 win over Manchester United, a result that immediately put them among the early talking points in the league. Ajayi scored in that opening match before the Tigers followed it with a 1-0 win away to Coventry City.
Their next four league games brought a goalless draw against Aston Villa, a 2-2 draw at Chelsea, a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United and another 2-2 draw against Everton. The results have given Hull a respectable start, although the dropped points also show how a promising run can become more complicated in the Premier League.
For Ajayi, the challenge now is to make sure those early results count for something over the course of a long season. Hull have shown they can compete against established sides, but the defender knows that maintaining that level will demand more than one memorable result.
Ajayi says Hull must keep working
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, the Super Eagles defender welcomed Hull’s opening results but stressed that the team have not yet achieved anything worth celebrating.

“It’s been a good start. We’re happy with the work we’ve done so far,” Ajayi said.
“We know we haven’t done anything yet. There’s still a long way to go in the season, but we put ourselves in a really good position to have a positive season, so we’re really happy.”
Ajayi also reflected on scoring against Manchester United, describing the moment as a blessing, particularly given the stature of the opposition. However, he placed greater importance on the result than his personal contribution.
“It was a blessing to score the first goal back in the Premier League, also against a massive team like Manchester United, something I don’t take lightly,” he said. “It was more important for me really that we got the three points and the win, which we did. So yeah, I was pleased.”
