Bruno Onyemaechi could be heading for a second major European league, with Real Betis considering a January move for the Super Eagles defender, Footynaija reports.
According to transfer expert Ekrem Konur, the Spanish club have identified the 27-year-old as a potential reinforcement ahead of the winter transfer window, although no formal bid or negotiations have taken place. The interest comes as Betis juggle La Liga and Champions League football, with their 2026/27 schedule extending deep into January.
Onyemaechi joined Olympiacos from Boavista in January 2025 for €2.5 million and has since become a regular squad option for the Greek champions. He played 25 matches across all competitions last season and has made six appearances this term, including involvement in Olympiacos’ European campaign.
His contract runs until June 2028, but that could become an important factor in January. Transfermarkt currently values him at €2.5m, while Footynaija understands Olympiacos could seek around €6m to €6.5m for the Nigeria international.
Onyemaechi’s growing reputation with Nigeria has added weight to his European profile. He was part of Eric Chelle’s AFCON 2025 squad and started all of Nigeria’s matches at the tournament. He also supplied the cross from which Victor Osimhen scored against Algeria in the quarter-finals.
Real Betis already have Fran García and Junior Firpo among their left-sided options, but their return to the Champions League has increased the demands on the squad. Onyemaechi’s pace, defensive work and ability to push forward could offer another option as Betis prepare for a demanding second half of the season.
A move to Seville would take Onyemaechi into La Liga and place another Super Eagles defender on one of Europe’s most competitive stages.
