Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez has moved to the top of Scotland’s market-value table, Footynaija reports.
The 24-year-old Rangers centre-back is valued at €16 million by Transfermarkt, making him the most valuable player in the Scottish Premiership. As Rangers and Scotland’s number one, Fernandez is also the 11th most valuable Nigerian footballer in the world.
His valuation places him ahead of Rangers teammates Youssef Chermiti and Nicolas Raskin who are both valued at €15 million each.
In fourth and fifth places in the Premiership value chart at the duo of Celtic stars Benjamin Nygren (€14m) and Kasper Høgh (€12m).
Fernandez’s position at the summit is particularly striking because Scotland’s market-value hierarchy is usually dominated by attacking players. Yet the London-born defender has forced his way past the headline-making forwards and midfielders after a breakthrough campaign in Glasgow.
His transformation has been swift. Rangers signed him from Peterborough United in July 2025, and he initially had to wait for regular opportunities. His breakthrough arrived in November when he scored against Livingston at Ibrox, after which he established himself at the heart of Danny Röhl’s defence.
Fernandez finished his first Rangers season with five Scottish Premiership goals and 12 league clean sheets, earning the supporters’ Player of the Year award. He was also the club’s only representative in the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year.
His rise has now carried into international football. Nigeria handed him his senior debut against Iran in March, before he scored against Jordan four days later.
