Tolu Arokodare has revealed the two things that left him disappointed after scoring his seventh goal for Ajax in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against NEC Nijmegen, Footynaija reports.
The Super Eagles striker opened the scoring in the first half, rising above the defence to head home a cross from Jorthy Mokio. However, Ajax failed to hold on to their advantage, dropping two points on home soil.
Beyond the disappointing result, Arokodare was also saddened by the serious injury suffered by his teammate Kasper Dolberg, who is expected to miss the rest of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) while training with Denmark during the international break.
The Nigerian forward made his feelings clear in a post on X after the match.
“Disappointed not to take all three points tonight, but great to be back out there at home. We’re all with you Kasper 🙏🏾❤️”
Osimhen inspires Arokodare’s tribute to Dolberg
Arokodare also dedicated his goal celebration to Dolberg, raising the Danish striker’s number nine shirt in front of the supporters as a show of solidarity.
The 25-year-old revealed that the gesture was inspired by his Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhen, who encouraged him to honour the injured Ajax forward.
“I wanted to do something like this. Or rather, it wasn’t my idea,” Arokodare said, via Habersarikirmizi.
“Osimhen told me, ‘You should do something like this,’ and I did. I thank him for that.”
Osimhen has previously made a similar gesture in support of Mauro Icardi after the Argentine suffered an ACL injury during the 2024-25 season.
