Favour Omenazu wants her first Super Falcons call-up to count for more than a personal milestone, with the MK Dons Women captain hoping that the lessons she picked up alongside Nigeria’s established internationals will help her grow as a midfielder and raise standards at her club in England, Footynaija.com reports.
The midfielder was one of 28 players invited by interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen for Nigeria’s October qualifying fixtures against Comoros. It was an opportunity to train within a senior national team that includes players competing in England, France, Italy, Portugal and the United States.
Nigeria completed the two-legged tie with a 7-0 aggregate victory, winning the first leg 2-0 before scoring five without reply in Ikenne. The result sent the Super Falcons into the next round of the race for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, where Morocco await.
For Omenazu, though, the camp offered something beyond the results. She had the chance to see how players with greater international experience prepared, trained and approached their work, and she believes the experience has already influenced her development.
Omenazu wants to bring Super Falcons standards to MK Dons
Speaking about her time with Nigeria, Omenazu described the environment as one that pushed her to learn from the players around her.
“I thought it was absolutely amazing. The environment as a whole was absolutely elite,” she said.
“The level of players, the calibre that we had, it was just, just to be around it, I just felt like all I was doing was learning.”
The experience appears to have left a lasting impression on the midfielder, who said she returned to her club feeling that she had grown despite the short time spent with the national team.
“I felt like even coming back, I’ve grown from that experience, and it was just honestly like an absolute dream,” Omenazu stated.
Her next challenge is to turn that experience into something useful for MK Dons Women. Rather than keeping the lessons to herself, she wants her teammates to benefit from what she saw and learnt in Nigeria.
“If anything, I want to share the experience and the levels that I’ve learnt there and bring it here so we can also lift our levels together as a team,” she explained.
Omenazu will hope that her first invitation opens the door to further opportunities with the Super Falcons. Nigeria’s next Olympic qualifying tie against Morocco is scheduled for early 2027, giving the midfielder another target as she works to establish herself at international level.
