Paul Onuachu could be nearing a return to action after Trabzonspor manager Thomas Reis provided a fresh update on the injured Super Eagles striker, Footynaija reports.
The 32-year-old has been sidelined since suffering an injury during Trabzonspor’s 4-2 victory over Finnish club KuPS in the UEFA Conference League last week.
Onuachu opened the scoring just three minutes into the encounter but was forced off seven minutes later after picking up the injury. He has since missed Trabzonspor’s domestic clash against Besiktas and their subsequent European fixture against Heart of Midlothian.
However, Reis is optimistic that the Nigerian forward will rejoin his teammates shortly after their next Turkish Süper Lig assignment.
Speaking after Trabzonspor’s 2-0 victory over Hearts, the German coach admitted that Onuachu might not be ready to start against Rizespor on Monday, October 26.
“The Rizespor match might be a little too early for him. It might be too early for him to start, but I hope he will be with us here after the Rizespor match,” Reis said, as reported by Turkish outlet A Haber.
Trabzonspor are hopeful of having their leading centre-forward back in training after the Rizespor encounter.
Following a slow start to the campaign, Onuachu has scored three goals in 10 appearances across all competitions for the Black Sea Storm.
Two of those goals came in the Turkish league, in Trabzonspor’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Gençlerbirliği on September 6. His third came against KuPS, where he struck early before his injury cut short his European outing.
