Victor Boniface could be heading for a surprise move away from Bayer Leverkusen, with Libyan club Al-Ittihad Tripoli reportedly interested in the Super Eagles striker after a difficult return to the Bundesliga side, Footynaija.com reports.
Boniface went back to Leverkusen this summer after an injury-hit loan spell at Werder Bremen, hoping to put a difficult period behind him and compete for a place in the club’s attack again.
His pre-season offered some encouragement. The Nigerian scored against Baumberg and Newcastle United and also impressed against Kickers Offenbach, where he helped create two goals as Leverkusen won 3-1.

The problem has been turning that pre-season form into regular competitive football. Boniface has made only one Bundesliga appearance this season, coming off the bench for five minutes in the 3-2 defeat to Elversberg on August 29.
Al-Ittihad make move for Boniface
Brila FM reports that Al-Ittihad Tripoli are making a move for Boniface and are reportedly close to securing the Nigerian from Leverkusen.
The report has not been confirmed by either club, meaning there is no official indication yet that Boniface is on his way to Libya.
A move to Al-Ittihad would be a major change in direction for the 25-year-old, who only joined Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise in 2023 and was part of the side that won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal in his first season at the club. Leverkusen still have him under contract until 2028.
Boniface has also had to deal with recurring knee problems. Leverkusen coach Carles Martínez said earlier this month that the striker had initially been in pain and was physically far behind, although his condition had improved.
For now, the Al-Ittihad story remains a rumour, but it has emerged at a time when Boniface is again fighting for regular football in Germany.
