Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray expects Super Eagles defender Ryan Alebiosu to be fit for this weekend’s Championship clash against Preston North End despite his late withdrawal against Lincoln City, Footynaija.com reports.
Alebiosu started Tuesday night’s goalless draw at Lincoln but was replaced by academy prospect Lucas Houghton in stoppage time after appearing to struggle with some sort of fitness concern.
The late substitution raised concerns over the Nigerian’s potential availability for Blackburn’s trip to Deepdale, but Mowbray has played down those fears.
“Pickers isn’t going to play,” Mowbray said, confirming that Harry Pickering will miss the Preston clash. “I would think Alebiosu will be OK.
“Whilst he’s a wonderful talent, he’s at times fragile. But I think the right words in his ear from the physio department will get him ready for the weekend, I’m pretty sure.”
Alebiosu’s expected availability will come as a boost to Blackburn, with the 25-year-old having established himself as an important part of Mowbray’s side at the start of the new Championship campaign.
The right-back has started all four of Blackburn’s league matches this season, completing 360 minutes and registering one assist.
He also impressed in the 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough, setting up one of Blackburn’s goals, while his defensive contribution has helped him maintain his place on the right side of the Rovers defence.
His consistency at club level has also added to his growing importance as a Nigeria international, making Mowbray’s latest update particularly encouraging ahead of the upcoming AFCON 2027 qualifiers.
