Marseille are hoping Tochukwu Nnadi can make a surprise return from a knee injury when they face Paris Saint-Germain on 20 September, Footynaija reports.
The Nigeria midfielder was injured during Marseille’s 2-0 defeat at Monaco on 30 August. He has since missed the team’s 2-3 home loss to Paris FC, leaving coach Bruno Genesio with fewer options in midfield.
Nnadi, 23, has chosen not to have an operation after doctors recommended surgery, according to reports from France. Instead, he has opted for a different rehabilitation programme in the hope of reducing his time out.
That has put the Ligue 1 meeting with PSG at the Orange Vélodrome on his recovery target, according to OuestFrance. The Classique is scheduled to start at 20:45 local time on Sunday, 20 September.
The target is considered very optimistic. Another possible date is 11 October, when Marseille are due to visit Troyes after the next international break.
Nnadi’s return would give Genesio another defensive midfield option at a difficult time. Marseille have lost two of their first three Ligue 1 matches, including defeats by Monaco and Paris FC, while Geoffrey Kondogbia is also injured.
The Nigerian has made two Ligue 1 appearances this season, playing 35 minutes before his injury.
