Tolu Arokodare has made a promising start to life at Ajax after helping the Dutch giants secure a 2-0 win away to PEC Zwolle, just days after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers in search of a fresh start in the Netherlands, Footynaija.com reports.
The Nigerian striker joined Ajax on a season-long loan from Wolves at the end of July, with the deal also containing an option for the Dutch club to sign him permanently next summer. The move came after a difficult first season in England, where Arokodare found regular playing time hard to secure, scoring six goals in 38 appearances for Wolves.
Arokodare had joined Wolves from Genk in 2025 after finishing the previous Belgian league season as the Jupiler Pro League’s top scorer. His move to England was another step forward for a striker who had already scored in Latvia, Germany, Belgium and France before reaching the Premier League.

However, his time at Wolves did not develop as he would have hoped. He started only one of the club’s final 10 matches of the 2025/26 campaign, while Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League created further uncertainty over his place in the squad. The situation eventually led to his loan move to Ajax.
Arokodare makes immediate impact for Ajax
The Super Eagles forward began the match at the bench before coming on in the 73rd minute for Abdellah Ouazane, with Ajax still unable to break the deadlock at that stage.
Three minutes later, he made his presence felt. Arokodare provided the assist for Jorthy Mokio, who fired into the top corner in the 76th minute to give Ajax the lead.
The Nigerian did not get on the scoresheet himself, but his contribution helped Ajax finally find the breakthrough. Julian Brandt added a second goal in the 90th minute after a pass from Mika Godts to complete the 2-0 victory.
It was a brief appearance, but Arokodare showed one of the qualities Ajax brought him in for. The result also gives him a positive beginning as he looks to establish himself in Amsterdam.
After a season in which his opportunities at Wolves were limited, the Nigerian now has a chance to play regularly, contribute to Ajax’s campaign and remind everyone why he attracted a major move to England in the first place.
