Tim Iroegbunam has received a major boost in his bid to secure a move away from Everton, with Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic openly discussing the club’s interest in the Nigerian-eligible midfielder, Footynaija.com reports.
The 22-year-old has entered an important stage of his career after spending the last two seasons with Everton, where he has gradually gained valuable Premier League experience. Before moving to Goodison Park, Iroegbunam came through the academy at West Bromwich Albion and later Aston Villa, where he made his senior breakthrough before joining Everton in 2024.
Iroegbunam has already shown that he can handle the demands of Premier League football. His game is built around his work in midfield, where his physical strength, tackling and ability to cover ground have made him useful in deeper areas. He also brings the sort of energy that can help a team compete against stronger opposition.

His performances have also kept him on the radar of Nigeria. Although he has represented England at youth level, including helping the Young Lions win the UEFA European Under-19 Championship, the midfielder remains eligible to represent the Super Eagles through his Nigerian heritage.

Hull City have been among the clubs monitoring his situation. Following their promotion to the Premier League, the Tigers have been looking to add players with top-flight experience, while Everton are understood to be willing to consider offers for Iroegbunam as he enters the final year of his contract.
Reports in June put Everton’s valuation at around £20 million, although his contract situation could give Hull room to negotiate.

Jakirovic has now provided the strongest indication yet that Hull are still pushing for the midfielder, telling BBC Radio Humberside that there has been progress in their pursuit and making it clear that Iroegbunam fits the profile he wants to add to his midfield.
“I think there is progress in this player. I like how he is playing and he is very experienced. I think we need this profile for a midfielder and I hope we will sign him,” Jakirovic said.
The Hull boss also revealed that the deal could take either form, with the Tigers considering both a loan and a permanent transfer. Iroegbunam’s contract situation is also working in Hull’s favour, with Jakirovic pointing out that the player is entering the final year of his Everton deal.
