George Ilenikhena’s bright start to the new season has attracted interest from two English clubs, with Hull City and Burnley asking about a possible move for the Nigerian forward, Footynaija reports.
Transfer reporter Rudi Galetti says both clubs have made enquiries about the conditions needed to sign the 20-year-old from Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad.
Ilenikhena has quickly put himself back in the transfer spotlight after scoring three goals in his last two matches. He scored against Al-Najmah in the King Cup of Champions before finding the net against Al-Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League.
His form could lead to another move in Europe, just months after he left Monaco for Al Ittihad. The Saudi club signed him as part of its plans to replace former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. That move made the Lagos-born forward the most expensive youngster of Nigerian descent.
Ilenikhena has already made his mark in European football. In December 2023, he became the youngest player of Nigerian descent to score in the Champions League when he scored for Belgian club Antwerp against Barcelona. He was only 17 years and 119 days old at the time.
Now, Hull City and Burnley are looking at the forward as they prepare for their own ambitions in English football. Both clubs have reportedly been impressed by his ability and are exploring what it would take to bring him to England.
A move would give Ilenikhena another chance to continue his development in European football. His age, pace and recent scoring form make him an attractive option for clubs looking for a young striker.
The two English clubs face competition, however. Ilenikhena has also been linked with Sevilla, Bologna and Trabzonspor during the summer transfer window.
With the window approaching its deadline, his impressive start at Al Ittihad could make the next few weeks important for his future.
