Nigerian centre-back Ibrahim Buhari has promised to give everything for Austria Wien after completing a permanent move to the Austrian Bundesliga club, describing the transfer as another major step in his career, Footynaija.com reports.
The 24-year-old joins Austria Wien after four successful years with Swedish side IF Elfsborg, where he developed into one of the club’s most dependable defenders following his move from Nigeria Premier Football League outfit Plateau United in 2022.
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa after sealing the transfer, Buhari expressed his excitement about joining one of Austria’s biggest clubs.
“I am very happy to have joined this club. It is one of the biggest clubs in Austria and I am here to give my best for the team in the new season,” Buhari said.
The defender has signed a three-year contract running until 2029 and has been handed the club’s No. 3 shirt. He is expected to join his new teammates immediately as Austria Wien continue preparations for the 2026/27 season.
Buhari also reflected on the journey that has taken him from Zaria to European football.
“It has been a long journey for me, from Zaria to making my mark in Nigerian football with Plateau United, and then moving to Elfsborg in Sweden. Every step has played an important role in my development.
“This is another chapter in my career and another challenge that I am looking forward to. I will give everything for this club and hopefully we can win titles together.”
Buhari built a strong reputation in Sweden for his commanding displays, aerial ability and composure on the ball, making 77 appearances for Elfsborg before attracting interest from Austria Wien.
Buhari ended his message with a promise to the club’s supporters.
“The fans should expect me to give one hundred percent every time I wear this shirt. I can’t wait to get started.”
