Manchester City have become the latest club eager to secure the signature of the highly-rated Nigerian teenager Zadok Yohanna, Footynaija reports.
The 18-year-old winger has enjoyed a stunning rise at AIK Solna, transforming from a promising academy prospect into one of the most talked-about young players on the continent. His rapid development has not only earned him a call-up to Nigeria’s Super Eagles setup but has also sparked a fierce transfer battle among several Premier League sides.
Before the arrival of City, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion were considered the leading contenders. Brighton reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with the youngster and tabled an offer worth around €23 million. Newcastle responded with an improved proposal valued at €24 million plus performance-related bonuses.
However, the entry of two of English football’s biggest spenders has significantly raised the stakes. Chelsea are believed to have discussed a package exceeding €25 million, while Manchester City continue to assess the situation through their extensive City Football Group network.
AIK are in no rush to sell and remain determined to maximise the value of a player they signed from Kaduna-based Ikon Allah Football Academy for just €750,000 less than a year ago.
Yohanna has justified the growing hype with five goals and four assists in 18 senior appearances. His explosive pace, ability to beat defenders and direct attacking style have made him one of the standout performers in the Swedish top flight.
Interest is not limited to England, with scouts from Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen also tracking his progress.
