Taiwo Awoniyi has been shortlisted for the Premier League’s Matchweek 35 Player of the Week award after producing a decisive display to power Nottingham Forest to a 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Footynaija reports.
The Super Eagles striker, making just his second league start of the campaign, delivered a performance of real authority on a landmark occasion; his 100th appearance for Forest.
Awoniyi struck twice and played a key role in a third goal, to inspire Forest to a win that eases their relegation worries. The former Liverpool man wasted little time making an impact, heading Forest in front inside two minutes with a powerful header that stunned the home crowd.
The Nigeria international won a penalty later in the first half, which was converted by Igor Jesus to double Forest’s advantage. Early in the second period, he added his second goal of the afternoon, effectively putting the result beyond doubt and sealing a vital three points for his side.
