“I really celebrated” – Sevilla manager reflects on Akor Adams’ winner vs Espanyol

Sevilla manager Luis Garcia Plaza was absolutely delighted by Akor Adams’ impact against Espanyol after the Super Eagles striker came off the bench to grab a stoppage- time winner at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Saturday, Footynaija.com reports.

The Nigeria international came off the bench in the final 15 minutes of the game to make a telling impact as he neatly collected a pass from teammate Alexis Sanchez just outside Espanyol’s box before rifling his effort into the bottom corner to secure a 2-1 win for his team.

Prior to that goal, Tyrhys Dolan had Espanyol in front courtesy of a 56th minute strike before Andres Castrin netted a much deserved equalizer for the hosts 28 minutes later.

Reacting after the game, Plaza, who is barely two months into his reign of Sevilla was impressed by Adams’ late strike and the way the rest of the team celebrated.

“I really celebrated Akor’s goal. I’ve only been here six games, but I really empathize with the team. The bench came out to celebrate, and that’s very important. You can’t stop believing,” Plaza told the club’s official website.

“The first half was poor, but then we were more clinical. The fans here are absolutely insane, the atmosphere they create is incredible. I think it’s difficult to lose at home, but with 40 points you’re not safe, we have to keep going.

“Let’s focus on Villarreal to continue this momentum, try to get some points, and if we win, even better.”

Sevilla climbed up to 12th place on the La Liga standings, with 40 points from 35 games. With three games left to play this season and just three points separating them from relegation waters, Plaza’s side will know that they’re not out of the woods yet.
