Nigeria’s Super Falcons have discovered their route to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers after being drawn against either Sudan or Comoros in the second round of the African series, Footynaija reports.

The draw, conducted at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football in Cairo on Wednesday, placed the Super Falcons among the continent’s top-seeded nations, meaning they will skip the opening round of matches.

Instead, the ten-time African champions will await the outcome of the first-round tie between Sudan and Comoros, scheduled to take place from 1 to 9 June 2026.

Nigeria’s campaign is expected to begin later in the year, with second-round fixtures billed for 5 to 13 October 2026.

The qualification race will ultimately decide which two African teams earn tickets to the women’s football event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

A total of 35 countries are involved in the qualifiers, which will unfold across five knockout rounds played on a home-and-away basis.

The six lowest-ranked teams will battle in the first round, producing three winners who advance to join higher-ranked sides like Nigeria in the second round. From there, the field will gradually shrink until the final round in late 2027 determines Africa’s representatives.

Elsewhere, the draw has thrown up several eye-catching encounters. Tunisia will take on Senegal, Benin face Mali, while Congo meet Morocco. Other notable ties include Cameroon against Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire versus DR Congo, and Zambia up against Uganda.

The Super Falcons returned to Olympic football at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after a 16-year absence but exited at the group stage following tough matches against global heavyweights.
