Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has cooled talks of a potential contract renewal at Celtic amid ongoing speculations surrounding his future, Footynaija.com reports.
Iheanacho joined Celtic last summer after terminating his contract with La Liga outfit Sevilla and while he enjoyed a blistering start to life at Celtic Park, his ensuing battles with injuries and lack of fitness has left him struggling to hold down a regular place in the squad.
The former Manchester City star, who penned a one-year deal when joining the Hoops last summer, faced questions about his future at the club after a match-winning display at Dens Park over the weekend.

In response, he insisted that his focus was solely on the remaining games of the season and helping the Scottish giants to achieve their goals for the campaign.
“I think in terms of that, we’re literally focusing now on the games going forward. Anything that concerns the contract will be maybe after the season, after we achieve our goals,” Iheanacho said in quotes revealed by the Celtic Star.

The 29-year-old striker also emphasized that his fitness issues are now a thing of the past and that he’s ready for a more prominent role within the squad as Celtic chase Hearts and Rangers on the SPFL standings.
“Yeah, obviously when you’re injured as a player it’s really difficult. Sometimes you could put your head down and all that.
“Obviously, you support your team, but it’s really sad sometimes not getting on the pitch, contributing to the club that signed you. But you just need to keep going and work hard to get your rehab done and get ready to come back stronger to help the team.
“I’m sure I’m fit to start games, but obviously it’s up to the manager to pick who he wants to start the games. Almost everyone is fit. We’ve got players coming back as well, so we’ve got a good squad to achieve that at the end of the season.
“We just need to take it one game at a time and hopefully it will fall for us. But I’m really sure I’m perfectly okay to start games.”
Iheanacho will be in contention for a starting berth as Martin O’Neil’s side prepare to host St. Mirren at Celtic Park this weekend.
