Why West Ham-linked Nigeria star Nnadi is leaving Marseille just months after €6m move

Tochukwu Nnadi’s time at Olympique de Marseille appears to be heading towards an early ending, with the Super Eagles midfielder now expected to leave the club just months after arriving, Footynaija reports.

When Nnadi left Belgium’s SV Zulte Waregem to join Marseille for around €6 million, he was seen as a smart investment; young, energetic, and full of potential. However, the reality in southern France has been very different. His situation has been shaped less by his ability and more by shifting decisions behind the scenes.

Deal done ✔️

A major turning point came with the departure of Roberto De Zerbi, the coach who had reportedly supported Nnadi’s signing. Once the Italian left, the midfielder lost a key ally within the club. Without that backing, his role quickly became uncertain.

Under new manager Habib Beye, Nnadi has found opportunities hard to come by. The Senegalese coach is understood to be building a squad suited to his own tactical ideas, and Nnadi does not appear to fit into that plan. His limited involvement, just a handful of minutes across a few appearances, highlights how far down the pecking order he has fallen.

Reports from within the club suggest the decision is already made. Nnadi is not part of the long-term project, and a summer departure now looks almost certain. In many ways, it reflects a broader issue at Marseille, where frequent changes in direction have made it difficult for young players to settle and grow.

Nnadi’s focus will soon shift to finding the right environment to rebuild. A return to Zulte Waregem could offer familiarity and regular football, while interest from other French sides may provide a chance to stay in Ligue 1 or drop slightly lower for consistent game time.

Clubs outside France are also monitoring the situation. West Ham United were previously linked with the midfielder, while teams in Germany and Russia could revive earlier interest if Marseille make him available.

Still only at the beginning of his career, Nnadi remains a player of promise. But for now, his Marseille chapter looks set to close before it ever truly began.
