Werder Bremen are still monitoring the fitness situation of Super Eagles defender Felix Agu as they prepare for a crucial Bundesliga test against Mainz 05 at the Weserstadion on Sunday, Footynaija.com reports.
Bremen are currently plagued by injury problems and they’re set to be without the likes of Karim Coulibaly (thigh injury), Maximilian Wober (muscular issues), Amos Pieper (minor procedure) and Wesley Adeh (ligament tear) this weekend.
Agu has also been out with a muscle injury for the past month, with his last appearance coming in a 3-0 defeat to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich back in February.
Providing an update on the Super Eagles star, Werder Bremen head coach Daniel Thioune revealed that Agu and teammate Samuel Mbangula are on the verge of a return. Thioune however ruled out the possibility of either player starting this weekend.

“They definitely won’t be starting this week,” he said, per quotes revealed on the club’s official website.
“Although we’ll make a decision on Saturday at the earliest as to whether they’ll be in the squad or not.
“Neither of them have been fully reintegrated into team training yet. If they feel ready and we get the go-ahead from the medical staff, then they may play a role.”

Injuries have hampered Agu’s season so far, with the 26-year-old managing just eight top flight appearances this campaign. His potential return to the matchday squad will definitely come as a huge boost for the Bundesliga strugglers.
Just one point separates Werder Bremen and Mainz 05 at the bottom half of the Bundesliga table at the moment. Both teams will be desperate for all three points as they look to pull away from the bottom three.
