Bayer Leverkusen have extended Nathan Tella’s contract with the Super Eagles forward putting pen to paper on a new long-term deal at the Bay Arena, Footynaija.comreports.
The former Bundesliga champions announced the extension on Tuesday, March 24 via a statement on their official website. Die Werself’s release revealed that the former Burnley and Southampton man has committed the next five years of his career to Leverkusen.

“Bayer 04 Leverkusen have extended the contract with forward Nathan Tella ahead of schedule,” the statement read. “The versatile 26-year-old, who can be deployed as a right winger, false nine or left winger, has penned a new contract to 30 June 2031. Tella joined Die Werkself from Championship club Southampton in 2023. His previous contract ran to the summer of 2028.”
Reacting to the renewal, Bayer Leverkusen’s Sporting Director Simon Rolfes expressed delight at being able to secure Tella’s future at the Bay Arena. Rolfes also had high praise for the Super Eagles forward’s personality and sporting ability.

“We are delighted we will be keeping a likeable and top-class professional in our ranks over the long term. Nathan Tella is a top performer on the pitch and an enormously important player in the dressing room. His identification with Bayer 04 is evident and visible every day. In sporting terms, his pace and footballing ability are the outstanding qualities Nathan brings to our team.”
Tella has been a key player for Bayer Leverkusen since his arrival at the club three years ago, and this new long-term contract highlights just how highly the Bundesliga outfit value his contributions both on and off the pitch.
The 26-year-old has tasted success at the Bay Arena, playing a significant role in that unprecedented Bundesliga triumph under Xabi Alonso in 2024. His major concern heading into these next years of his new contract will be staying fit as injuries have have dealt him a cruel hand over the last couple of seasons.
