Ademola Lookman enjoyed a historic night in the UEFA Champions League as Atletico Madrid were forced to settle for an entertaining 3-3 draw away to Club Brugge in their knockout phase play-off first leg, Footynaija reports.

The Nigeria international wrote his name into European football history by becoming only the fifth player to score for two different clubs in the same Champions League season. It is a rare achievement previously reached by only four other players including Erling Haaland.

Lookman had earlier scored in the competition for Atalanta before completing a January move to Atletico Madrid, making his latest strike even more remarkable.

His goal also marked another milestone. Lookman became the first Atletico player to score on his Champions League debut for the club since Héctor Herrera in 2019, and the first to do so as a starter since Ángel Correa achieved the feat in 2015.

The match itself delivered drama from start to finish. Atletico took an early lead through Julián Álvarez’s penalty before Lookman doubled the advantage just before half-time, reacting quickest at the back post to finish from close range.

Club Brugge refused to fade. Nigeria midfielder Raphael Onyedika sparked the comeback shortly after the restart, scoring from a rebound following a strong save by Jan Oblak. The Belgian side then levelled moments later, turning the contest into an open, end-to-end battle.

Atletico appeared to have secured victory late on when an own goal restored their lead, but Brugge struck again in the closing stages. Onyedika capped an outstanding personal performance by providing the assist for Christos Tzolis’ equaliser, ensuring the tie remains finely balanced.

The thrilling draw leaves everything to play for ahead of the return leg in Madrid, where both sides will fight for a place in the Champions League round of 16.
