Nigeria’s build-up to another continental title defence has officially begun, with the first group of players assembling ahead of two high-profile friendly matches against Cameroon in Yaoundé, Footynaija reports.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was among the earliest arrivals, setting the tone as preparations gathered momentum inside the Super Falcons camp. The Paris Saint‑Germain Féminine forward linked up alongside midfielder Christy Ucheibe and Galatasaray defender Tosin Demehin.
The early group blends experience with fresh energy. Several players return after missing Nigeria’s last major outing, including forward Gift Monday, striker Joy Omewa, defender Glory Ogbonna, and midfielder Ngozi Okobi‑Okeoghene, who rejoins the squad following maternity leave. Young prospects such as Esther Onyenezide and first-time invitee Fatima Oloko add a developmental edge to the squad as Nigeria continue rebuilding depth.

More reinforcements are expected shortly, including goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, forward Rinsola Babajide, and striker Esther Okoronkwo.
The friendlies against the Cameroon women’s national football team represent more than routine matches. They form a key testing phase before the next Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria will attempt to defend the title they won dramatically against hosts Morocco women’s national football team.

Nigeria remain the competition’s most successful side, and the upcoming games are expected to help fine-tune tactical balance, assess returning players and integrate new talents ahead of another demanding campaign.
The tournament, again hosted in Morocco, will also double as Africa’s qualification route to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, raising the stakes for every preparation match played in the months ahead.
