Championship sides Birmingham City and Coventry City have both been alerted to the availability of Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka after the Nigeria international’s impressive showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, footynaija.com reports.

The 28-year-old has been one of the Super Eagles’ most reliable performers in Morocco, featuring throughout the tournament as Nigeria marched to the semi-finals before losing on penalties to hosts Morocco. He is expected to feature again when Eric Chelle’s side face Egypt in the third-place play-off.

While his influence in the national team has been clear, Onyeka’s club season tells a very different story. He has struggled for opportunities at Brentford, making only six Premier League appearances and failing to start a league game. That lack of minutes has reopened the debate about his long-term future in west London, despite the important role he played in his early seasons after arriving from Midtjylland in 2021.

Last season’s loan spell at Augsburg, where he made 30 Bundesliga starts, showed he remains capable of performing consistently when trusted with responsibility. Now, his energetic and disciplined displays at AFCON have again put him on the radar.

Birmingham see Onyeka as a way to add strength and intensity to their midfield, while Coventry are also monitoring the situation, according to Sky Sports news. Spanish side Valencia are understood to have already approached Brentford, raising the stakes.

With his stock rising fast, Onyeka now faces a pivotal decision: stay and fight for minutes in the Premier League, or move somewhere he can play every week.
