President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles on their hard-earned bronze medal at AFCON 2025, praising the team for their resolve following the semi-final disappointment against Morocco, Footynaija.com reports.

The Super Eagles ended their AFCON 2025 campaign on a positive note with a 4–2 victory over Egypt in the third-place match in Casablanca. The match finished 0–0 after 90 minutes, pushing the game to a penalty shootout.

Nigeria converted four penalties, with Ademola Lookman netting the decisive spot kick, while goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali produced two crucial saves to deny Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush.

The win gave Nigeria their ninth AFCON third-place finish, extending their unbeaten record in bronze medal matches.

In a statement shared after the tournament, Tinubu said, “Despite the heartbreak of the semi-final loss to Morocco, our Super Eagles showed resilience, overcame Egypt, and made us proud. This bronze medal surely feels good like gold. Congratulations, Nigeria!”

Earlier in the tournament, Nigeria impressed in the group stage, advancing with strong performances against Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda. They carried that form into the knockout rounds, edging Mozambique in the round of 16 and overcoming a determined Algeria side in the quarter-finals.

The semi-final against hosts Morocco ended in a penalty shootout loss, leaving the team with a chance to claim bronze and restore national pride.

Coach Eric Chelle’s squad combined experience with emerging talent, with players like Victor Osimhen, Akor Adams, Paul Onuachu and Alex Iwobi delivering solid performances throughout the tournament. While the semi final exit was a setback, the win over Egypt ensured the team finished with a medal and took confidence into the upcoming international calendar.
